CycleCityWest is a community based organisation that aspires to create greater opportunities for more people to ride bikes more often.

CycleCityWest was inspired by the regional initiative Greening the West, a organisation focused on the municipalities of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham. Its membership includes local government, water corporations, government agencies, and industry and community representatives.

While the characteristics of Melbourne’s west are diverse, it faces challenges in regards to health and wellbeing, the environment and the economy. In Melbourne’s west levels of physical inactivity, obesity and type 2 diabetes exceed the state average. Greening the West aims to improve the quantity and quality of spaces and opportunity where people can undertake physical activity within close proximity to their homes and places of work so that health and wellbeing can be improved.

CycleCityWest’s role as a partner in Greening the West is to improve health and wellbeing by providing more opportunities for cycling to be a part of everyday life. It does this by developing programs with government corporate and community partners to improve cycling facilities, hosting cycling events, and delivering bike education and cycling fitness programs.

Membership to CycleCityWest is free. As a not for profit organisation working to improve opportunities for cycling in Melbourne’s West, anyone with an interest in cycling is encouraged to join up. The more members we have the greater power we have to influence our governments and corporate partners.

Members will receive regular updates about our activities as well as membership benefits provided by our partners. Join CycleCityWest here.
